Sum and Difference

Adding things together and taking them apart with fun!

What Are Sum and Difference?

Sum means putting numbers together to make a bigger number!
When we add 2 apples and 3 apples, we get 5 apples - that's the sum!

Difference means taking numbers apart to see what's left.
If you have 5 cookies and eat 2, the difference is 3 cookies left!

Let's Learn with Steps

1️⃣ Count the first group of items

2️⃣ Count the second group of items

3️⃣ For sum: Add them together! For difference: Subtract the smaller from bigger!

Parent Tips 🌟

  • Use everyday objects like toys or snacks to practice sums and differences - "How many crackers do you have if I give you 2 more?"
  • Make it a game! Have your child hop forward for addition and backward for subtraction.
  • Start with sums/differences up to 5 before moving to 10, and always celebrate small successes!
